1. Construction for the measurement
The measurement system existsMitteln of the ATB 802 USB Box, a Net PC with Windows XP and the program.
The calibrated measure microphone is included in the ATB 802PC bundle.

5. In and output controller
The output level is set with the output controller. The displayed value is the level from a sine wave in dBV.
0db = 1V. Range: -15dB (0,18V) – 15dB (5,6V)
The input level is set with the input controller. The input is to set for the max green bar. The bar should not get read. The plot is independent from the controller. It shows only the level of the in signal. Range: 0dB - -21dB, in 1,5dB steps.

7. Sound Pressure Level, SPL
The SPL measurement is very easy.
The ATB 802 box is switched to SPL. After that, the speaker and the microphone are connected to the box.
In the SPL active menu the distance of the microphone to the speaker and the nominal impedance of the speaker are to set. The plot shows the pressure for 1W/1m.
The SPL measurement is also for the noise. The pressure is shown with the RMS level meter with the C weighting. The plot shows the FFT of the noise. To set the time window the program has very complex calculations. Thanks to it the result is always right and reproducible.
Scale range: 5dB to 60dB. Maximum level for HiFi- and automotive speaker 105dB, for professional speaker 120dB.
Frequency range: 20Hz – 20kHz.
For the impedance measurement the ATB 802 box is set to IMP. The speaker is connected to the box. All settings are automatically done by the program. The impedance plot could be combined with the SPL plot. The scale is at the right side of the plot.
Scale range: 50 Ω. For professional speaker 250 Ω.
Frequency range: 20Hz – 20kHz., Thiele-Small measurement 12Hz – 8kHz Precision: ± 2%
9. Mag measurement
The Mag measurement is for the frequency test of studio, HiFi and home cinema equipment. For the electrical measurement there are adapters. To set the scale for the special measurement there is the scale-shift function.
The phase measurement is done with the Mag, SPL und Imp measurement. In the Mag and Imp measurement the electrical phase is shown. In the SPL measurement the acoustic phase is shown. The acoustic phase is a function of the distance of the microphone and speaker. The setting of the distance is done automatically by the ATB program. This complex calculation always gives the right acoustic phase.

The Step shows the time response.
The normal two way box with bass-mid range speaker and tweeter has a time delay between the speakers. With the delay the box can not reproduce the original signal. To get the original there is the need of a digital delay. This delay is to set with the Step measurement.
The following plots show the setting of the delay.
12. Total Harmonic Distortion THD
The distortion measurement shows the THD and the harmonics H2, H3, H4, H5.
After the measurement it can be decided between the THD and H2, H3, H4, H5 plot.
The sound pressure for the measurement is set in the SPL menu.
Scale: 1%, 10%, 100%
Frequency range: 20Hz – 8kHz
Precision: > 0.01%
13. Intermodulation Distortion, IMD
The intermodulation distortion measurement has the RB Signal for testing. The RB Signal is for nonlinear distortion measurement. Wolfgang Klippel, Germany, describes the distortion from nonlinear systems.
The basic for this measurement is a generator signal with consists of two sine waves. The signal is modulated at the nonlinear transfer response of the system under test. The result is the IMD spectrum.
The IMD measurement is used for the Rub&buss to test the mechanical quality of the speaker. In production line the speakers tend to have defects. The RB signal includes two sine waves. The ratio from the frequencies is 13. There are the signals RBlow for woofer testing, RBmid for testing the mid range speaker and RBhigh for the tweeter.
There is a display for the Q-Index. It shows the harmonics in relation to the fundamentals.
A second measurement in the IMD menu is a frequency analyser. For the test is to set a sin signal is to set. The frequency for the signal can be set in the range from 20Hz – 20kHz.

14. Thiele-Small Parameter
The ATB 802PC program includes a very comfortable and precise Thiele-Small parameter measurement. The measurement is like the ATB precision.
To avoid errors it is always to be checked if the values are right. If not there is a message.
The weight method is used.
The program also calculates the voice coil induction L.

Representation of the Audio Analysers
The Audio analyser is based on the USB instrument and the ATB 701PC or ATB 701QC program. With this system, the acoustic measurement is very easy. For the SPL measurement there is only to connect the speaker and the microphone to the box and to click on the M button in the advanced measurement program. If you want to get the sensitivity of the speaker set only the impedance of the speaker and the distance to the microphone in the program and then click on the M button.
To be sure, that all measurements are very precise, the program has the system-correction function for calibration of the system.
The ATB 701 USB unite combined with the ATB 701 Measuring program forms an exact and extensive Audio Analyser. The ATB 802 unite includes a power amplifier, microphone amplifier and converters.
The converters are high precision with 24 bit a sample rate from 96kHz.
It has a switch for the SPL, impedance and magnitude measurement. There is also a calibration function. The output power is set with the power controller.

The ATB 802 XLR has an balanced microphone input with 48V power.
